The election of Barack Obama on November 4th, 2008 was historic--and it was a deeply personal moment for all of us. The day after we asked you to reflect on that moment and any role you played to make Obama's victory possible. More than 7,800 of you responded with moving and inspiring stories.

It means that I overcame the Great Depression, World War II, the fact that I had to be the best student, employee, etc, etc in order to get ahead, and it means that I lived long enough to witness victory over bigotry and discrimination...

Or Anita, a 16-year old from Eaton Rapids, MI who witnessed her hope for the future given new life:

...Barack Obama is the hope for a better, brighter future of America, a more colorful and honest future of America, a more cooperative future of America. And that hope was elected last night. I am sixteen years old and I cannot wait to live in a United States under the guidance of President Barack Obama.
